Get Ripped Results- Vicki

This January the Lean Lifting strong chicks took on a 30 day Get Ripped Challenge. The challenge was food based and skill focused. Each week they were given extra workouts to do outside of class and were responsible for keeping up with an online food log where all participants could see each others meals. 

I am spotlighting Vicki for having such great results in just 30 days. She lost one inch in her waist and another inch in her hips and seven pounds. Here is what she had to say about the challenge:

Trying to eat right over the Christmas holidays has always been tough for me and this year was no exception.   When Jen suggested the "Get Ripped" challenge I was "all in" because I was sick of how I felt and how often I was cheating.  The challenge took place during the month of January and consisted of extra workouts during the week, food logging everyday with an accountability partner, and eating Paleo but with the exception of no fruit (!!) and no nuts (!!).    Prior to the challenge (and before all the Christmas temptations) I felt like my diet was pretty much on target and probably about 85% Paleo but I had reached a plateau and my body was still holding on to extra fat, especially in my stomach and hips.   I think the thing that made the most difference for me was not being able to have fruit or nuts - I immediately realized how they were my "go to" foods when I didn't feel like cooking and that I ate way too much of both.   

 Without the fruit and nuts I had to get more creative with my veggies and even try some things (brussel sprouts!) that I was sure I hated.   I think knowing that we were only doing this for a month made it easier for me, when I got any flak from friends about not trying this or that,  being able to say "it's just for the month of January!" helped stop some of the friendly "food pushing".   After the first week of chocolate withdrawals I really felt great, I have more energy in the morning and throughout the day.   

 At the end of the challenge I had lost 7 pounds and an inch off my hips and my waist.   What's been most noticeable to me is my belly - I've always had a pooch that's gotten larger with age and now it's much smaller - I'm convinced that limiting my fruits and nuts made a big difference in that area.   I'm so excited by the results of just one month that I'm continuing the challenge on my own now!
