Leah attends my 6:15 M/W/F women's only crossfit class. She is an amazing person to watch workout! Always a smile on her face, and her willingness to pick up weight has made her a joy to coach. She has made massive improvements from her days in level 1. I am excited to see what 2012 has in store for her.
Now that I have been doing crossfit for a little over a year I can list so many ways that it has changed and improved my life. I play viola (which is very similar to violin:) professionally which is physically and mentally demanding. I don't think I ever realized how similar athletes and professional musicians are in mentality and training. Pushing my body to it's limits has taught me so much.
Here is the list of benefits I have received from crossfit:
- more energy
- learned how to get enough sleep
- better relationship with my fiance (who also started doing crossfit!)
- totally overhauled my diet and feel better because of it
- have more confidence
- actually enjoy lifting heavy things
- feel better in my clothes
- learning something about myself
- learning how to roll out and take care of my body and so much more.
After doing the level 1 class for a few months I remember being really nervous about joining Jen's class, I though maybe I wasn't ready, but I'm so glad I did! When I started crossfit I don't think I even realized how little strength I had, I just thought it was normal. I was tired all the time and getting sick very frequently. I was also eating an extremely high carb vegan diet which I thought was the way to go. After deflecting all the eat meat messages at crossfit central for a few months I finally decided to give it a try. My current diet wasn't really working and I though what do I have to loose.
Making that decision really opened the door and my strength improved dramatically, I felt better and was less stressed out and all of a sudden started to notice more changes in my body. After our class paleo challenge last September I improved my diet even more and realized how I was still so addicted to carbs. I had a flat stomach for the first time in my whole life, WOW!
The best part is that there is still so much room for improvement and that really pushes me to keep it up and just try and do my best. Sometimes that RX weight seems really far away but I remind myself of how much I've gained in just one year and then I look at all the other amazing women in my class who started out in the same place and now can do so much. I'm sometimes blown away by the displays of strength, endurance and progress.
Turning 32 this year felt really good because I actually feel in shape, this is the first time in my life that I have worked out consistently for over one year (make that 4 months), new year's resolution - check!
